When owners of websites link up Google Search Console (GSC), this data could be used to create a high accuracy of website metrics, taking Google-source data and mapping it with Ahrefs data. This could be done for organic pages count and organic traffic to name the most important ones.
I went through the article that explained Ahrefs does not provide it, stating "Ahrefs doesn’t track ALL the keywords that a website is ranking for in organic search results. We track the most popular ones. In reality, there are billions of keywords, and it’s technically impossible to track all of them."
This doesn't have to be a reason to not present real data. There is a way in showing actual Google Search Console data for the key metrics and then in individual keyword reports refer to to the gap in Ahrefs data and GSC data to "Keyword - Others: XXXXX Clicks".
For example, if GSC shows 50K Monthly search clicks and Ahrefs data shows 35K, then the report will show a row mentioning "Keyword - Others: 15,000 Clicks" or "Unattributed to keywords/pages", etc.
This calculation would help websites present an accurate picture of their website to the world, for a whole set of different reasons: Internal use for internal reporting and SEO campaign optimization; presentation towards clients, partner agencies and other stakeholders to provide an accurate picture of the SEO value of a website.
In our case, the Ahrefs traffic estimate is not anywhere near our actual number. In fact, undervalues the organic traffic more than 50% based on actual organic clicks, presenting a picture to the world that is far from reality. As Ahrefs is the industry leading tool, it would help enrich numbers to provide an accurate picture of metrics, both for site owners and customers.
