Brand and non branded organic traffic shares
Romain B
It would be fantastic to have a tool that estimates volume of branded and non branded traffic (shares and total). Semrush gives it but not for all countries and sometimes it is wrong regarding brand term.. with ahrefs actually we have to calculate it manually filtering with brand keywords and exporting full referring terms / estimated traffic..

Yes, great idea. Tim, I think the simplest way to define it is a search by someone who doesn't know the brand exists. This is often key in my consultations with new clients: Client: "I think we're getting some search traffic already." Me: "Yes, from people who already know you exist!"

Yes. Would be fantastic to exclude brand from traffic value.

hey Romain B , can you please define "branded keywords" ? I mean "ahrefs" and "semrush" are clearly branded keywords.. but what about "ahrefs vs semrush review" - is that a branded keyword for both of us?
Romain B
Tim Soulo: both are branded keywords, I would like to know how many traffic me and my competitors get from their referring keywords from branded terms, ex: "Geico car insurance" and from non branded terms, ex: "cheap car insurance".
Tim Soulo
Romain B: let's say ahrefs.com has an article that gets traffic for "Geico car insurance". Is that a "branded term"?
Romain B
Tim Soulo: "Geico car insurance" is a branded term, the article could gets traffic 70% from branded terms and 30% from non branded terms, it is what it would be interesting to get from Ahrefs for a full domain.
Tim Soulo
Romain B: this leads to the conclusion that "branded terms" are defined by a user :) So if you want Ahrefs to filter out "branded searches" for you, you need to give us a list of words, so that we could exclude search queries that contain these words. Is that what you're looking for?
Romain B
Tim Soulo: yes, I think it would be the best way. Semrush most of the time guess the branded root term automatically but sometimes it is wrong and sometimes it doesn't guess it and doesn't give possibility to choose one..
Romain B
Tim Soulo: Hi, are you working on this possibility? (Choosing a brand root term and get % branded/non branded traffic of a domain) :)
