Aggregate Ranking Gains/Drops

It'd be nice to have a graph that shows aggregate ranking gain / drop. This could be another tab where you currently have them in the overview section. https://screencast.com/t/vithoCVp
Currently, there is no fast way to see if something big has happened. Visibility and Average Position are hard to tell if someone big has happened with G if you have lots of keywords in there. An aggregate rankings drop/improvement can give a high level view that can then be quickly examined at the page or tag level if so desired. Or you could filter by tag or URL on this aggregate rankings graph and quickly see if a page or KW set saw big jumps or dropoffs.
Competitors offer this and it is incredibly helpful for the manangement of large accounts.
Per screenshot, you can quickly see big jumps on Sept 9th and today. Then you have options to sort columns and or change graph based on tags, URL to dig deeper. In 10 seconds you are diagnosing problems/gains where they matter.

I'm not sure why you say that "Visibility" and "Avg. Position" graphs would not show any difference if anything "big" happens. Because this is what they are for - to show you global changes in your rankings. We also have "Traffic" graph, that also shows your total performance. So I'm afraid we're not going to add fourth report for tracking your "global performance".

Tim Soulo: Total bummer that this is so quickly dismissed. We understand that Visibility and Avg. Position is for this purpose but when you're tracking thousands of keywords there is no way that anyone can tell me that it's easier to diagnose a big drop using a .5 or 1% change in Visibility or Average Position then quickly seeing that aggregate rankings shot up 4000 spots.
Here's one more example of Visibility, Avg Position and a different vendor that we currently use for aggregate rankings movement.

While I totally agree you can see the movement in the first two I still think it's more instantly obvious in the third one that something huge just happened. This one-second recognition gets me right into analysis and not hovering over the current graphs trying to gauge what a .75% change in visibility or 1 point change in avg position really means for my rankings. The last screenshot shows me my rankings went up 3500 spots overnight. I see that and I'm sorting columns to figure out what groups of keywords moved and then I'm filtering and honing in on pages that jumped or got rocked all within a couple of minutes.
Totally understand it's your prerogative to add features as you guys will but something like this would have sealed us as customers for the very, very long term. Nonetheless, we're grateful that you're willing to take the time to discuss since most won't even do that. We hope you guys reconsider at some point!

And I might add one post-script comment... we LOVE ahrefs as a whole. Best tool on the market for keyword research, links, and content purposes.

Dustin: hey Dustin, thanks a lot for sharing more details behind this. My main roadblock in adding this feature is this one: When most of your keywords rank in top5, the "aggregate rankings movement" will never be significant. I mean when you drop from #1 to #4, that is only "-3" to "aggregate rankings movement", but the impact is HUGE! On the other hand, when some keyword goes from position #80 to position #20, that is "+60" - which is HUGE in terms of reporting, but has 0 value for your bottom line. That is why we have a report with "Estimated traffic" - by looking at it, you can can tell if anything significant had happened to your rankings.

Tim Soulo: Thanks for the back and forth Tim. Much appreciated. I agree that ranking changes in the Top 5 are far, far more important than any changes on pages 2-10. Nonetheless, even with your traffic estimate I know for a fact that it's not even close to what we get on a daily basis. So I'm not convinced that even that report gives me an "at a glance" indication that something big has happened.
Even if it is a host of keywords that are buried in the SERPs that change it allows me to quickly dig deeper and check on both buried keywords and ATF first page keywords. I then spend my time on making an impact on the bottom line rather than trying to figure out how we're doing on a daily basis.
We obviously feel differently about the need for such a report so no need for a response. Just know that if you guys had something like this you have us for the long term. While I'm sure there are plenty of other things that could be added, in my day to day use this is the one feature or report it's missing.
Cheers.

Dustin: hey Dustin! thanks for not giving up and continuing to prove your point! :) I guess what we'll do on the next round of updates for Rank Tracker is ask the community if anyone else thinks this is a good report to add :)

Tim Soulo: Cool. Thanks. I'll start our aggregate rank changing campaign now to drum up support and lots of votes. ;)

But for real, if you want me to lay out my case and articulate why I believe it is valuable to have so you have something to share I'd be more than happy to do so.
