Share of Voice different

Fedor Fokin generally, the %s reduced, both for Monthly and Average volume. Is that due to the new calculation you speak of? It would be good to get a blog post explaining changes like this - it is tough to explain for those who report upwards on SOV or similar weighted ranking metrics, without an official source from ahrefs noting that these metrics are shifting and new numbers will not necessarily correlate to old numbers, all old numbers need to be revised to those given by the new methodology
Fedor Fokin
Jack Adams: yes, the new calculation method is likely the cause. We now mention this in our article about Share of Voice: https://help.ahrefs.com/en/articles/2072381-what-is-share-of-voice-sov-and-how-is-it-calculated#h_de0c4e6c37
However, if you notice a difference of more than 5%, there may be another reason. We’d be happy to investigate such cases—just share the details with our support team.

Fedor Fokin It is very different, even controlling for Average Volume per the article. Thanks for this flag in the article, it's important to be able to show our company board why the numbers are significantly different.

Example of magnitude: on 2025-01-25 I made an export of legacy data, mobile device, filtered to one specific tag (300 KWs). The top three tracked competitor websites had SOVs with this old calculation of 14.51%, 3.67%, and 3.57%. These same websites' SOVs are now scored (on this same date, same tag, mobile, average volume) 11.4%, 2.5%, 2.8% respectively (yes, the 2nd and 3rd ordered websites originally switched position on this date with the new calculation).
The relative difference in the new scores is -21%, -32%, and -22% compared to the old scores, so the reduction is quite significant.

Different metrics showing in legacy Rank Tracker for Share Of Voice VS updated Share Of Voice - for specific tags

We have spotted a discrepancy in data when selecting 5+ tags on the legacy report VS the new Share Of Voice tracker. One is showing 2%+ and the other is showing 1.2% - both for mobile and the same tags.
Fedor Fokin
Esther de Pooter, Jack Adams,
It is expected that the old and new reports may not match exactly, as the new reports use a different data source and an improved calculation method for Share of Voice.
Another possible reason for a discrepancy is the “Monthly volume” mode in the new report. The old report does not support this mode and instead uses “Average volume.” To ensure a proper comparison, please try selecting “Average volume” in the new report.
Let me know if you have any questions!

Having the same problem - Overview SOV in Legacy and 2.0 don't match. Why is this?
